FOCUS ON THE COMMUNITY
The stunning fitness facility overlooking the pool at Braemar Country Club in Tarzana, California gives members another inviting reason to be at the club. It also bolsters the strong sense of community.
Braemar opened its original fitness facility, stocked with Life Fitness equipment, in 2011. But the club underwent a major renovation project that resulted in an upgraded 4,600-square-foot fitness space. The impressive workout room debuted in March 2022. Corrine Pridgen, the fitness manager at Braemar, oversaw the creation of the new area. “It’s beautiful,” she said. “It looks really cool in here and the members love it.
THE PROCESS
GIVING MEMBERS OPTIONS
The vision for the fitness center was to create a space that was open and had a lot of choices to help all fitness enthusiasts. The expansive space features ample Life Fitness cardio equipment ranging from treadmills and bikes to ARC Trainers and PowerMills. Attention was paid to variety when it comes to strength training at Braemar. The facility includes a wide array of selectorized strength equipment, a large SYNRGY360 unit, a dual adjustable pulley and Hammer Strength racks.
“I intentionally created more options for members to choose from and to allow for trainers to be creative in their sessions,” said Pridgen. “Also, (we wanted) space for three or four trainers to work at one time and not fight over equipment or areas. The gym is much more open and functional. Before it was limited in equipment choices and space.”
THE RESULTS
SEEING A RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Braemar also has a growing group training offering that provides an opportunity for community building away from the golf course and tennis courts. Response to the renovation has been overwhelmingly positive and that has played out in terms of traffic in the new space.
“I’ve definitely noticed an increase of people joining just for the gym,” explained Pridgen. “And we have members sign in when they come to the gym. Before the new equipment, in one day, we would average about 65 to 75 members, now we average 110 to 120. And that happened within a couple months of the upgrade. I believe it’s going to get even busier.”
